Game Story

EVANSTON, Illinois (Ticker) -- Jamie Broback's big second half helped No. 15 Minnesota survive a scare. Broback scored 18 of her 26 points over the final 20 minutes as the Gophers rallied from a five-point halftime deficit to defeat Northwestern, which is 10th of 11 teams in the Big Ten Conference, 70-62. It was the 12th Big Ten win for Minnesota (22-6, 12-4 Big Ten), matching the program's record since a 16-game conference format was established. Broback hit a layup to break a 59-59 tie with under three minutes remaining and hit a 3-pointer to extend Minnesota's lead to five points. The Gophers drained all four free throws down the stretch to seal their third straight win. Janel McCarville recorded her 11th double-double of the season with 18 points and 12 rebounds for Minnesota, which used a 9-0 run early in the second half after trailing, 41-36, at the break. Sara Stutz scored a career-high 22 points for Northwestern (5-24, 2-14), which had its losing streak extended to eight games.
